An attractive and very utilitarian choice here in south Florida is the Fiberglass door.  Whether in a smooth paintable surface (just use latex primers and paints) or in a stainable surface, the Fiberglass door is a crowd pleaser.  When combined with composite PVC jambs and stainless steel hinges, this is a door that will last a very long time with as minimal maintenance as you could wish.  Fiberglass resists our salt laden environment as well as being hightly resistant to the damage inflicted by the intese solar radiation that we recieve daily.  UV rays are the cause of the breakdown of all materials here in south Florida.  As well fiberglass is impervious to the insects and damp conditions.  Fiberglass and stainless steel resist these conditions as well as anything can.

Also is Aluminum, Vinyl :


Aluminum is highly risistant to our caustic environment and therefore has many uses.  Pool areas, patios, bedrooms are just some of the places that many find aluminum or vinyl an excellent door choice.  Aluminum and vinyl have great choices for glass that can be impact, highly risistant to solar heat gain, tinted, or insulated.  Aluminum and vinyl also offer the advantage of the Sliding Glass Door.  The corner meet shown below - available in HVHZ.

Steel doors have all the same decorative inserts that the fiberglass doors do.  The strength of steel has reassuring implications.  Steel in its simplest form is the door of choice for utility closets (electric rooms) for multi-family units.
